The Eagle Has Landed! Where were you?
Forty-six years ago the Apollo 11 spacecraft and it’s astronauts (top photo left to right) Niel Armstrong, Mike Collins, and Buzz Aldrin landed their lunar module in the Sea of Tranquility, a basin of basalt rock on the moon, and stayed for two and half hours; Armstrong and Aldrin on the moon and Collins manning the spacecraft. This achievement is still considered to be one of greatest in the history of mankind. A group scientists interviewed as part of the fortieth anniversary events were quoted as saying, “It was carried out in a technically brilliant way with risks
taken that would be inconceivable in the risk-averse world of
today … The Apollo program is arguably the greatest technical
achievement of mankind to date … nothing since Apollo has come close
