Ancient Chinese heavily identified with ‘chi’ or life energy, referred to themselves as Descendants of the Dragon. Chi translates as hornless dragon. In Chinese mythology, sky or cloud dragons symbolize potent or auspicious powers concerning good fortune, supremacy and strength. These dragons are guardians of water and weather; rainfall, typhoons, and floods which are directly related to protection against crop failure, famine or natural disaster. Cultural evidence of dragons on ceramics, metal and textiles in China date back to the fifth millennium BC or earlier, including dinosaur bones, identified as dragon bones by ancient Chinese scholars.
