More Information about Colors and Images

Will my cover be the same as the one I see on your site?

Color: We use specialized equipment and techniques to photograph our covers and color correct them on a professionally calibrated monitor to insure color accuracy and consistency. However, home computer monitors and their settings are highly variable regarding color representations. Also there can be slight variations in dye lots we receive from the tannery every few months. Please make your color choice with a generous spirit. If you are extremely sensitive to color choices we suggest that you look at our products on several different monitors before making your final selection.

Images: To save time and lower costs we photograph a single cover and use that image in several categories if we can. Example: We shoot a Kindle 2 cover and use that image for the Kindle 3, Nook and Nook color images on the web. For this reason your cover may appear cropped by 1/16 – 1/8th of an inch or so in hand.

Oberon Leather:

The leather we use is custom tanned for us. To facilitate our tolling process, our leather is more natural and free of paint coatings. For this reason, scars, small imperfections, dye color variations and streaks are common and a part of the ‘Oberon Look’. Our leather is drum-dyed, meaning the dye penetrates completely and will never scuff white. Only plastic or vinyl covers present a flawless surface. The plus side of unpainted leather like ours is that it’s less processed and will absorb natural oils that guarantee that your cover will develop a deep, glossy patina over time.

Leather fading:

Our leather, like all high quality leather, is deep drum dyed, not painted. This allows our leather to polish to a beautiful, supple patina with age and enables us to work in our unique tooling medium. Painted leather is less susceptible to fading but will scuff to a white layer underneath the paint.

All drum dyed leather will fade over time, especially those in the least stable spectrums of blue and purple. The Oberon colors most vulnerable to fading are Sky Blue, Navy and Purple. Once faded, the original dye cannot be restored. To avoid long term fading or radical short term fading caused by intense, direct sunlight, avoid leaving your cover on car seats or dashboards, in window seats, sills or bright sunlight at the beach. Also protect your cover, in any color, from long term exposure to window or skylight exposure (or extremely bright florescent lights) by storing your cover in a drawer or shelf where it's protected. Keeping your cover well conditioned will help. Thank you!

Color & Image Combinations: Can I have my cover in a different color?

We offer our images in a choice of three colors per image. As artists and technicians we chose particular colors for each image for specific reasons: aesthetics, popularity and technical complexity. Some of our more complex images cannot be seen very well in our darker colors & and for technical reasons, certain images cannot be produced to our quality standard in particular colors. There is method to the madness!!! The first choice of color shown on the product pages of our site is generally both the most popular and /or selected by the artists as the most appropriate. At this time we do not offer other color choices.

Images: Can I get a journal image not offered on an e-reader cover or other product?

Not at this time!  All of our most popular images are offered on e-reader covers. We have been amassing our journal image library since the early 1990's. We only began making e reader covers in 2008. It's very expensive to introduce new images and incorporate images on new products. Please send us your wish list requests so that we can catalog the level of desire for an image to be eventually included on other products!

Buttons: Can I get a journal button on an e-reader cover of vice-versa?

Our e-reader and journal buttons are not interchangeable. They're actually an entirely different design construction, one with a screw mount and the other with prongs. One cannot be attached properly to the other.
